“Exploring the Current Trends and Future Prospects  of Sun Protection Industry”

“New Variations & Innovations in Sun Protection Industry”

“According to WHO 10% decrease in ozone layer could cause additional 300, 00 cases of non melanoma and 4500 cases of melanoma skin cancers. Consumers’ interest in protecting their skin from harmful effects of rays is increasing. The demand for better formulations to combat the effects of UV rays with additional anti aging properties is in focus.

About the Event

According to a recent analysis, sun protection accounts for nearly 90% of total sun care, which makes it vital to focus on consumer needs and wants in this category. Sun protection products enjoyed 2.9% retail sales growth over 2016, bringing the category to $8.9bn, thanks to the continued category innovation and emerging markets. The sun care market grew 2.5% in 2016. The burgeoning demand for multifunctional suncare and skincare products is augmenting the growth of the global Suncare market, and the global sun care market is expected to showcase a scorching growth of US$11.1 by 2020.

The European sun care market is fraught with challenges, such as cosmetic formulators balance the difficulty of developing high performance sunscreen formulations for a cost-conscious consumer base, while at the same time using raw materials whose prices are some of the most expensive in the world due to high import taxes. To develop unique products with high SPF and PFA protection, European formulators have been tasked with discovering synergistic pairings between ingredients in order to minimise UV filters’ concentration, thereby reducing overall formulation costs. At the same time, these companies must bear in mind consumer demands for increased sunscreen sensoriality, including products with lighter touch, greater spreadability and less tack.

To discover the latest market trends and uncover sources of future market growth for the Sun Care industry, and gain competitive intelligence about regulations for the industry, market leaders, track key industry trends, opportunities and threats, and inform your marketing, brand, strategy and market development, sales and supply functions, come and be part of Sun Protection Summit 2017.

This summit, is a prominent platform that will highlight sun protection approaches associated with new developments, technologies and innovations in suncare industry by our expertise panel and also it will witness presence of field dignitaries, shedding light on a broad outlook on blooming suncare protection industry. The Summit will draw attention to various researches, advancements, innovations and new technologies in the suncare domain which will be beneficial for the European suncare market.

9.00 AM CHAIRMAN’S WELCOME REMARKS
9.10 AM
Latest Sun Protection Claims: Challenges and Opportunities

Suncare product claims have evolved from the more traditional SPF to encompass a whole new set of environmental protection claims such as UVA, PA, pollution etc. There’s a need of “Building Blocks” approach for substantiating latest protection claims in the suncare industry and also covering the challenges faced when creating and supporting competitive and innovative claims in a highly challenging regulatory environment.

  Presenter:
Ms. Fernanda Motta,
Principal Scientist,
Oriflame Research & Development

9.40 AM
Replacement of In Vivo Methods by In Vitro Methods in Sun Protection Domain

Beyond the shadow of a doubt, in vivo methods needs to be replaced by in vitro methods for sunscreen products. Whether for economic or ethical reasons, thanks to manufacturers, under pressure from the associations, from the European commission, health or security agencies, the consensus is clear, the next developed method should be an in vitro one.

  Presenter:
Mr. Sébastien MIKSA,
Laboratory Manager,
HelioScreen labs
10.10 AM Morning Coffee Break & Networking
10.30 AM
Combining Beauty and Technology, Discussion on the Future Prospects of Latest Technologies Entering in Beauty Industry

In the last 20 years Global Beauty Market has grown by 4.5% a year on average (CAGR), with annual growth rates ranging from around 3% to 5.5%. The development of smart technologies is essential to expand the use of suncare products throughout the year, alleviating the seasonality associated with it and thus expanding the market and offering new  opportunities.

  Presenter:
Mr. Marc Pissavini,
Basic & Applied Research Director,
Coty

11.00 AM
Highlighting Adverse Effects of Pollution and Stratospheric Ozone Layer Depletion Inflating Exposure to UV Radiation

Ozone layer depletion increases the amount of UVB that reaches the Earth’s surface. Laboratory and epidemiological studies demonstrate that UVB causes non-melanoma skin cancer and plays a major role in malignant melanoma development.

  Presenter:
Dr. Michaela I. Hegglin,
Lecturer,
University of Reading

11.40 AM
Innovation in Cosmetology: Microbiota Improving Skin Health

The microbiota is recognized to have a key role in skin health. It contributes to the establishment of an accurate immune system and to the physiology and integrity of tissues. Long term disturbance of microbial ecosystems, such as regular use of ‘non-appropriated’ personal care product, may lead to an unbalanced microbiome, and to skin disorders. Beside, modulation of skin microbiota becomes an innovative approach improving skin health. Biofortis Mérieux NutriSciences is a Contract Research Organization conducting clinical trials and microbiota evaluation in this field. Some cases will be presented to highlight the key steps for skin microbiota projects, from the study design to the data valorization.

12.20 PM
Probing into the Current Challenges of UV Filters in EU Market

The global UV filter market for Cosmetic products is expected to reach an estimated $672 million by 2021 with a CAGR of 3.1%. The UV filters in sunscreens have long been authorized by the EU authority on the basis of data from studies on acute toxicity, subchronic and chronic toxicity, genotoxicity, photogenotoxicity, irritation, sensitization, phototoxicity, etc. New challenges with respect to the safety of UV filters have risen post banning of animal experiments for the development of cosmetics. Future debates on sunscreens are likely to aim  at nanoparticles and environmental issues.

Innovation in Toxicology: CADRE-SS, an in Silico Alternative to Animal Testing

CADRE-SS is an in Silico tool for predicting skin sensitization potential based on modelling of molecular interactions. CADRE-SS offers distinct advantages for first-round screenings of chemicals and could be used as an in silico alternative to animal tests, where permissible by legislative programs. The CADRE Computer-Aided Discovery and REdesign) platform relies  on quantum-mechanical modelling of molecular interactions. It is a hybrid model that evaluates skin permeability using Monte Carlo simulations, assigns reactive centers in a molecule and possible biotransformations via expert rules, and determines reactivity with skin proteins via quantum-mechanical modelling.
